The application for a permit (for temporary residence, permanent residence or EU long-term residence permit) is submitted during a legal stay on the territory of Poland. If you fulfil this condition, an employee of the provincial office will place a special stamp on your passport when submitting this application. Thus, your stay in Poland will be legal until the end of the proceedings on the legalisation of your stay.
It is important to remember that the above applies only to your stay in Poland. The stamp on your passport won’t allow you to freely cross the Polish border and move around the Schengen Area countries. If you leave Poland, your re-entry will be subject to compliance with the conditions set out in Polish law (e.g. having an appropriate visa).
