A work permit is a document that, together with a document legalising one’s stay, entitles a foreigner to work in Poland. In Poland, this document is issued only at the employer’s request, i.e., a foreigner cannot independently apply for a work permit.
The document is issued by the Voivode of the entity entrusting the foreigner with the performance of work or the registered office to which the foreigner has been posted. The document is valid for up to three years, after which it may be renewed.
A work permit is always issued for a specific foreigner and position. Therefore, when applying for a work permit, it is necessary to determine the exact conditions of employment, i.e., the type, place and time of work, and remuneration.
It is worth knowing that a work permit is not the only way to legalise the employment of foreigners in Poland. It is also possible to use the simplified procedure, i.e., employing foreigners on the basis of the employer’s statement. This option, however, is only viable for citizens of six countries, namely Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, and Russia. With such a statement, foreigners from these countries can work in Poland for six months during the subsequent twelve months.
